The Peace Officer
Today, we’re chatting with our friend Mike Levy, President of Assault Dynamics. Mike is also a SWAT Team Member and Instructor.
Mike retired from his career in banking in 2006 and took the unusual route of becoming a Police/Peace Officer after providing a training venue for local SWAT teams and K9 units. He became a full-time SWAT Team Member in 2007.
As a POST LE instructor and Sig Master LE instructor, Mike provides officer training as a range staff member and at his own facility. Both his SWAT and range experience are a result of collateral assignments to the patrol/gang unit.
Mike regularly deploys our HEL-STAR 6® marker light for low light and NVG training and many of the teams he trains utilize it as a valuable tool for marking and identifying team movement and location.
He says “All of my range staff are required to use a marking device for any low light training. I have used a number of different marking devices over the years and the HEL-STAR 6® is by far my favorite.” It happens to be our favorite too Mike!
Mike started his training company Assault Dynamics with the primary objective of elevating standards within the firearms community and increasing his students understanding and skill with firearms and tactics.
He is able to successfully apply many of the business principles and leadership skills he learned during his Masters Degree at Pepperdine University to both his career in law enforcement and his other business ventures in agriculture and real estate.
Many of you will no doubt be familiar with Mike from his practical training videos on Instagram where he effectively demonstrates how to apply critical thinking in a self-defense situation.
Mike says “I break critical thinking up into two categories. We have tactics, which are learned and applied to a specific situation, and decision making, which is a combination of judgment and strategy.”
As a frequent social media contributor Mike has made it his goal to provide value to the community by offering information that people may find useful to do their jobs and protect themselves and their families.
Of course, with having such a large following on social media he is often exposed to the negativity and armchair commentary you would expect. Nevertheless, he handles it all with the same aplomb he does everything else.
A man of rigorous discipline Mike adheres to the adage that “disciplined thoughts yield disciplined actions.” However, he is also a dedicated family man, who takes great joy in creating new adventures for him and his loved ones.
