Barrel and Hatchet Training Group began as a vision in the heart of Eric Roscher in 2016. As an active duty TACP JTAC with over ten years of service under his belt, Eric had a passion to translate his wealth of lifesaving skills in a way that would benefit his entire community.

Beginning with classes conducted in Largo, Florida (not too far from CORE’s corporate offices) Eric developed a community of people interested in learning lifesaving skills and how to safely handle firearms.

People came to BHTG’s classes from all walks of life including teachers, artists, and doctors to law enforcement personnel and veterans. All with a common goal and commitment to improving their safety and survival skills.

Initially Eric had hoped that BHTG would become his primary source of income, and while that has not yet happened, his dedication to his craft drives him on regardless. Undeterred by the economics of establishing a new business enterprise, he continues to work towards his determined goal of creating a community of like-minded people.

BHTG is currently in the process of transitioning to becoming a non-profit organization. As they begin building up their membership, they plan to organize events that will not only help with fundraising, but allow them to pursue their ultimate purpose. By joining with other non-profits they hope to tackle and draw attention to major societal issues including homelessness and human trafficking, particularly that the child sex trafficking industry.

We asked Eric how he saw BHTG evolving in the days ahead, his response is typical of someone who has already laid down his life in the effort to make this world a better place for us all. He simply said: “.  I want to use events to build a community of members who can network, work together and help the community.”

Eric feels strongly that by making BHTG a non-profit organization it will enable them to invite other qualified and talented instructors to teach classes and raise funds for these causes. By removing the element of “competition” he foresees the ability of his organization to work alongside others to achieve these stated goals.

If you are not already following BHTG we’d encourage you to check out their Instagram feed at https://www.instagram.com/barrelandhatchettraininggroup/ for great images and inspiration.
